Rabbi Gershon

Rabbi William Gershon is the Spiritual Leader of Congregation Shearith Israel. Previously, Rabbi Gershon has served with distinction, pulpits in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Southfield, Michigan. He is a graduate of the Joint Program of the Jewish Theological Seminary and Columbia University. He received an M.A. in Jewish Studies and Rabbinic Ordination from JTS in 1987. He is the recipient of the Solomon Schechter Award in Jewish Family Education and has been at the forefront of creative programming in synagogue life for almost twenty-five years.

Rabbi Gershon serves on the Boards of the Ann and Nate Levine Academy and Hebrew Free Loans, and is the Past-President of the Dallas Rabbinic Association. He holds position of leadership in the Conservative Movement, including Treasurer of the Rabbinical Assembly, and is a member of the Chancellor’s Rabbinic Advisory Council. Rabbi Gershon was chosen to be a Rabbinic Mentor to younger colleagues by the Jewish Theological Seminary. He is a Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Harman Institute in Jerusalem, one of thirty rabbis chosen as a leader in communities in North America.

For the past thirteen years, Rabbi Gershon has brought to Shearith Israel vision and energy, coupled with his passion for Judaism and the Jewish people. His impassioned support for Israel, inspiring sermons and teaching have uplifted our congregation and community.

Rabbi Gershon is married to Raquel Pomerantz Gershon, and they have three wonderful children, Benji, Eliana and Yoni.
