Congregation Shearith Israel Religious School High School Program

The Shearith Israel Religious High School Program seeks to engage students in meaningful Judaic learning that will touch their minds, their hearts, and their souls. As our students grow, they will make Jewish thought a part of their personal philosophy and decision-making, Jewish practice a part of their daily living, and the immense heritage of the Jewish People the foundation upon which they stand and shape their lives. This program will engage students in serious learning opportunities with highly qualified teachers and facilitators, including our very talented rabbis, as well as distinguished university professors. It will offer opportunities for deep intellectual exploration, spiritual connection and growth, as well as social opportunities that will help to create significant bonds with fellow students and this entire congregation

Our students will take advantage of opportunities to expand their Jewish leadership skills, whether they are leading a service, "laining" (reading Torah), or having a discussion about Israel and the challenges she faces, or the role of the Jewish Diaspora in helping her through these troubled times. They will examine personal beliefs about the nature of God and God's role in our lives. Students will study Jewish history and great literature. They will act and perform, using their own modern adaptations of our ancient texts. They will use a full range of arts to experience and learn about their Judaism. And yes, they will have fun, too.

The Jewish educational experience, thoughtfully structured and implemented is a leadership-training program for our youth. Graduates of our school will be able to stand up proudly in Conservative congregations around the world, participating fully and leading. They will be able to participate on their respective university campuses in Hillel activities, and political discourse. Most of all, they will have a sense of their place in the world as Jews, and their incumbent responsibilities toward each other, their people, their God, and the world around them. They will be the shapers of the Jewish future.
