Ornish Youth Choir

Most children start singing with the choir when they are 8 years old and continue through the Bar or Bat Mitzvah and beyond. Choir rehearsals are during Hebrew school on Sunday. This program has several goals which include:

  1. Teaching students a fun way of davening the Shabbat Musaf service
  2. Familiarizing them with the congregational melodies
  3. Enhancing singing skills
  4. Working on leadership skills
  5. Strengthening Hebrew reading
  6. Instilling in them a love for Jewish music

The Ornish Youth Choir has the opportunity to participate in Shabbat services and different concerts and programs during the year, sometimes with guest performers from all over North America. It is a wonderful way to develop friendships with children from different parts of the Dallas Jewish community.

The choir is a great program for young people to prepare for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. They become more comfortable on the bima and develop better knowledge of Hebrew and other skills important for B'nei Mitzvah preparation. Rehearsals are held during Religious School hours from 9:15 am to 10:00 am in Sablosky Chapel and coincides with the Religious School calendar. If your child is interested in joining the youth choir, please contact Cantor Zhrebker at CantorZ@shearith.org or Cheryl Jackson 214.939.7315.
