CSI Mitzvah Community
CSI Mitzvah Community
Our members volunteer their time, effort and talents to make the CSI community a better place. The following volunteer opportunities are available:
To get involved,
contact Mona Allen at mallen@shearith.org
or 214-361-6606, ext. 218.
Hospital Visits/Bikur Cholim
The local hospitals are contacted each weekday morning for a list of congregants who may be in the hospital either for illness or the simcha of having a baby. Congregant volunteers supplement the clergy visits and help keep those in the hospital company during their stay. This Lay group of 10-15 people will attend an orientation with Rabbis and our chair Phyllis Kaplan. Individuals will visit the sick, give a Circle of Prayer card and create a follow up report for the Klay Kodesh.
Welcoming Guests/Hachnasat Orchim
We recognize that many congregants or visitors to our community may need
a warm welcome for Shabbat or holidays. If you, or someone you know, are
in need of a home-cooked Shabbat or Yom Tov meal, please contact the synagogue
and we will help you connect with a host family.
Newborn Baby Welcome
Each child born into the CSI community is a treasured jewel. In addition to being blessed in a communal ceremony each year (on the Shabbat corresponding with the reading of Bereshith), babies are welcomed into our shul family with a token gift and angel food.
Comforting the Bereaved/Nehum Avelim
The support of a strong community is most needed at the hardest time in
people's lives. Each time a member of our shul is sitting shiva, the Shiva
Minyan Mitzvah Corps will attend an evening minyan, and help provide food
for the shiva home.
Angel Food
This committee prepares and creates Kosher food for home delivery to hospital patients, new mothers and their families, shiva families and and others. Deliverers and cooks are always needed.
