DeReKH: The Dallas Regional Kehillah High
Our high school program, DeReKH, will start back up on Sunday, October 18, 2020 from 10am - 12pm at:
Anshai Torah: 5501 Parker Rd, Plano, TX, 75093 What does DeReKH mean? DeReKH is an acronym for Dallas Regional Kehillah High. In Hebrew, derech means road or pathway. We hope our program will inspire our teens to be prepared for whatever road lies ahead of them when they graduate from high school--so that they can participate in and stay engaged with Jewish life and learning their entire lives. Where and when will the program meet? Classes take place at Anshai Torah on Sundays from 10 AM-12 PM. High school students will have their own separate space to learn and hang out. Will there be food? Yes! Each morning we’ll start with a hot breakfast or bagels. Who is teaching? Classes will be taught by rabbis from Anshai Torah and Shearith Israel in addition to experienced Jewish educators and facilitators. I remember there used to be a program called ATID for Conservative Jewish high schoolers. Is this the same thing? Not exactly. That program was just for 11 th and 12 th graders. While juniors and seniors will still have their own separate space and college-pre curriculum, this program takes kids all the way through their post-Bar/Bat-Mitzvah years to college. We believe that all of our high schoolers should have the benefit of the greatest possible social opportunities as well as time with the talented, personable, and inspiring rabbinic team from each of the three communities. Can my teen earn volunteer hours? Yes! We will be meeting, during regular hours, 5 times to participate in social justice projects around the Dallas area. How much is the program? $695 for the year, not including trips. Cost of the trips will be announced shortly after the year begins and will be subsidized for members of Anshai Torah and Shearith Israel. Do I have to be a member of a synagogue for my teen to participate? Though we encourage you to consider joining one of our communities, the program is open to all Jewish teens in Dallas. What about Confirmation or Graduation? Synagogues that offer confirmation will be in touch about specific requirements to participate in their own congregational celebration at the end of the year, as well as time to prepare with their individual rabbi. Please ask your Director of Education for more details. All 12th graders in DeReKH will participate in a graduation ceremony where our two communities will celebrate together. Sounds great, how do I sign my teen up?
