DeReKH: The Dallas Regional Kehillah High
DeReKH, Hebrew for pathway, is a collaboration between Congregations Anshai Torah and Shearith Israel, offering our 8th-12th grade students a top-notch educational experience as well as meaningful opportunities to create friendships and memories they will cherish for a lifetime.
Building on the strong foundation of our existing high school programs, students will be enriched and challenged by a diverse curriculum that is both foundational and creative. Students will explore core areas of Jewish identity and belief including learning from Israel experts. They will also take part in innovative programs tracing their family histories and genealogies.
DeReKH also includes unforgettable trips. In 8th grade, students will learn about combating social and economic injustice and learn about southern Jewish culture and history in the Lower Ninth Ward and French Quarter of New Orleans. In 10th grade, students will walk the path of their great-grandparents through the gateways of Ellis Island. Seniors will take part in March of the Living, reenacting the rebirth of our people from the ghettos and the gas chambers to the streets and the sanctuaries of our holiest city in our promised land.
Most importantly, our Shearith students will share these experiences not just as an individual synagogue community, but as a united Dallas Jewish community. They will be guided not just by their own teachers and rabbis, but also enriched and inspired by the full complement of rabbinic and educational talent. Each Sunday, students will be greeted by more than 100 fellow students from our three congregations and beyond. That’s why our program is not just a high school program, but a kehillah—a community of bright, committed, young hearts and minds, dedicated to building a vibrant Jewish future for the next generation.
