We carefully plan the religious school calendar by reviewing local public and private school calendars and communicating with other religious schools across the DFW area to determine the best schedule for our community. We understand that having breaks for Yom Tovim and national holidays can make the schedule feel less consistent, especially for our younger students. However, we ensure that students have at least 24 Sundays of religious school each academic year.
We offer Shabbat programs to give students and families the opportunity to experience the traditions, values, and sense of community that make Shabbat meaningful. These programs encourage connection, reflection, and a shared celebration of Jewish life in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
4th-6th grade students are divided into three advisory groups, each of which will meet with one of our senior rabbis for 8 sessions. The rabbis will each discuss one topic with their group during the year: Reading and Understanding the Hebrew Bible, A Tour of Ritual Objects, and What are Mitzvot and Why Should We Observe Them? Over the course of three years, students will rotate through each topic with all three rabbis. We are excited that this program will both allow our students to build relationships with our rabbis and help them dive even deeper into the topics that will help them transition into Jewish adulthood.
Beginning in 5th grade, students prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah by exploring the siddur and Jewish life cycle events with Rabbi Matt Rutta. During 4th–6th grade midweek classes, students also receive one-on-one Hebrew tutoring to strengthen their Hebrew reading skills, with a focus on Shabbat prayers. Sunday morning tefillah with Rabbi Sunshine provides additional opportunities for students to become familiar with the siddur and develop their own personal relationship with God.
All grades have recess because movement and play help students recharge, build friendships, and return to learning ready to focus. Brain breaks are short movement or mindfulness activities that help students reset, improve focus, and support successful learning.
Parent volunteers help build a strong school community and enrich our programs. Volunteering allows families to support students, strengthen connections, and play an active role in creating a meaningful learning experience.
A WhatsApp group is a group chat in the WhatsApp messaging app that allows members to communicate in one place. It is used to share reminders, updates, announcements, and other important information, helping families stay connected and informed throughout the school year. You will receive an invitation at the beginning of the school year to join the WhatsApp group for your child/children’s grades.
We provide students with classroom fidgets and sensory tools to help manage feelings of anxiety and support focus. Please do not send fidgets from home, as they can be distracting and are easily lost.
To support a focused and engaging learning environment, students should keep cell phones and smart watches put away during Religious School. If a student needs to contact a parent or guardian, they may do so through WFRS staff.
Our Religious School welcomes students ages 4–18, from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Scholarships and tuition assistance are available. If you would like to discuss tuition options for your child, please contact our Accounting Coordinator, Cindy Embry.
If your child is absent, whether planned or unexpected, please email your child’s teacher and Sarah Lipinsky.
If your child arrives late (after 9:40 a.m. on Sundays or after 4:40 p.m. on Wednesdays), please walk them to the North Entrance reception desk and ensure they are with their teacher or in their classroom. For Tuesday classes at Levine, if your child arrives after 4:40 p.m., please walk them to the front entrance and text or call Jillian or Sarah to let them know you have arrived.
If you need to pick up your child early, please come to the North Entrance reception desk and sign them out. The receptionist will provide a card for you to give to your child’s teacher. This process helps ensure the safety of all students and allows us to know where everyone is at all times.
One of the key focuses of our religious school is fostering meaningful connections between parents and students through Jewish learning and shared experiences. Throughout the year, each grade participates in a special Family Program led by one of our wonderful rabbis, creating opportunities for families to learn, connect, and grow together. Students and their parent(s) learn alongside a rabbi and then bring that learning to life through a meaningful, hands-on experience.
