Below are the current Bylaws of Congregation Shearith Israel with proposed amendments for your review and approval at our 140th Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Under the direction of the Governance Committee, the highlighted amendments were proposed for adoption by the Board of Directors at its meeting on April 22, 2025. Amendments are in the following sections of the Bylaws:
The amendments can be found on pages 8, 11, 20, and 21 below. Throughout the document, proposed subtractions are struck-through and in red; proposed additions are underlined and in blue. At the Annual Meeting, the Governance Committee will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding the proposed amendments.

Under the direction of the Governance Committee, the highlighted amendments were proposed for adoption by the Board of Directors at its meeting on April 22, 2025. Amendments are in the following sections of the Bylaws:
- Article 6 – Allowance for the Recording Secretary, the Corresponding Secretary, and the Financial Officer to serve two (2) consecutive terms opposed to one (1) term
- Article 8 – Addition of the Chair of Audit Committee and Chair or Co-Chairs of the Annual Campaign as Board members
- Article 19 – Clarification of One or More Senior Rabbis and/or Associate Rabbis to be included as principal professionals of the Congregation
- Article 20 – Clarification of annual designation of the Mara D’atra among respective Senior Rabbis
