Dear Shearith Members,
Below are the current Bylaws of Congregation Shearith Israel with proposed amendments for your review and approval at our 138th Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
Under the direction of the Governance Committee, the highlighted amendments are mostly related to the recommendations of the Shearith Rabbinic Advisory Committee that Shearith transition to a partnership-based model of leadership in July 2024 to allow for three Senior Rabbis. A few additional modifications have been made throughout the document. The majority of proposed changes can be found in Article 20 which begins on page 20 below.
Throughout the document, proposed subtractions are struck-through and in red; proposed additions are underlined and in blue. At the Annual Meeting, the Governance Committee will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding the proposed amendments.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration and support of these important changes which will allow for this exciting direction of our shul community for years to come.
