Foundation Legacy Donors
Honi was a Jewish miracle worker during the first century BCE known for his ability to bring rain. One day, Honi was journeying on the road and saw a man planting a carob tree. He asked, “How long does it take for this tree to bear fruit?” The man replied, “Seventy years.” Honi then further asked him: “Are you certain that you will live another seventy years?” The man replied: “As my forefathers planted carob trees for me, so I too plant these for my children.” Honi sat down to have a meal and sleep overcame him. As he slept, a rocky formation enclosed upon him, he was hidden from view, and he slept for seventy years. When he awoke he saw a man gathering the fruit of the carob tree and Honi asked him, “Are you the man who planted the tree?" The man replied, “I am his grandson.”
As community members of Congregation Shearith Israel, we harvest from trees planted before we were born; and we plant trees so that our children will have something to harvest after we are gone. This planting and harvesting connects us across the generations. A legacy gift to the foundation ensures that the financial resources of the shul can be sustained for generations to come.
The Shearith Israel Foundation Trustees are pleased to recognize the generosity of the following donors who have supported Shearith Israel or the Foundation directly through a legacy gift:
