Full-Time Staff Accountant
Congregation Shearith Israel is a dynamic, large Conservative synagogue with nearly 1000 families, located in the heart of the Preston Hollow area of Dallas, Texas. We are seeking a dedicated, outgoing individual who will work as a key member of our accounting staff.
Reporting to the Controller and working closely with all staff members, the Staff Accountant will also develop good working relationships with vendors, the bank, and members of the congregation. This is a critical role in helping the synagogue maintain and prepare accurate and detailed financial records on an ongoing basis. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts
• Preparing journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations
• Performing monthly close processes and assisting with monthly financial statement preparations
• Maintaining documentation for accounts payable, purchasing, and meeting check processing deadlines
• Processing semi-monthly payroll
• Assisting with various HR functions
• Contributing to the development of annual operating budgets
• Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations
• Responding to information requests, reviewing financial reports, assisting with external audits, and assisting the Controller on special projects as needed
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred
• 4+ years of accounting experience
• Strong analytical skills and very detail oriented
• Working knowledge of Fund Accounting preferred
• Strong technical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Works well both collaboratively and independently
